The 2BT Newsletter: Delayed but not deterred

2020 has been the longest decade ever and we are not immune to its effects. This week was an incredibly busy week for both of us and left us both physically emotionally drained. We also are not in the same city at the moment… As a result, we were not able to record this week’s episode. We are truly sorry about that and we will make it up to you, WE PROMISE!

In the past 2 weeks, we have had to mourn the deaths of Zimbabwean comedy legend Lazarus Boora aka Gringo, Moana and Ginimbi. Not to mention Alex Trebek (whose legendary Jeopardy song used to be part of our Ga Ga Ga segment before the show’s lawyers got in touch)

Already this month, our music mogul in the making Dan managed to take a trip down to Cape Town to promote a series of failed shows with a group of Zimbabwe’s finest acts such Soul Jah Luv, Guspy Warrior and “many more”. We discussed the show, the trip, Hopewell and Jah being messy pon de timeline on The Caping from Cape Town Episode here

Amongst all the discussion of death and pain we also managed to find time to speak to Ghanian superstar rapper Kwesi Arthur to discuss his music career, new EP and why he is so vocal about #ENDSARS

Zimbabweans Doing It Big

Portia Zvavahera

Portia Zvavahera studied at the BAT Visual Arts Studio under the auspices of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. She recently set a new artist record at Phillips Evening Auction with her painting titled “Rising from the Unknown”. The piece sold for £163,800 (US $212,383) which was nearly three times more than the estimated price.

Jordan Zemura

Jordan Zemura is a Zimbabwean footballer who plays for AFC Bournemouth as the Left-back. He has made impressive progress since joining the Cherries at the end of the 2018/19 season even landing himself a place in the Zimbabwean national team for the African Cup of Nations.  Born in London and schooled at the Oasis Academy Isle of Sheppey, he qualifies to play for the Zimbabwe national team through his parents.

Tawanda Chirewa

17-year-old Tawanda Chirewa has signed his first professional football deal with English League One club Ipswich Town. Tawanda who was born in Chelmsford, England to Zimbabwean parents, Tsitsi and Blessing Chirewa. He has made one senior appearance for the Blues so far, coming off the bench as a late sub in the EFL Trophy clash at Colchester in November 2019. This appearance made him  Ipswich Town’s second-youngest debutant ever

Chevrons

The Zimbabwean Cricket team won its Third ODI in Super Over against Pakistan.  The match finished in a tie but man-of-the-match Muzarabani dismissed Iftikhar Ahmed and Khushdil Shah for two runs on four balls in the Super Over which Zimbabwe scored off just three balls without any loss. The win broke Zimbabwe’s sequence of ten consecutive defeats and gave it its fifth win over Pakistan in 62 ODIs.
